walk from Croy train station to Broadwood Stadium taking the long way round

Walking it the long way (continued from previous page)

from this starting point there is a 25 minute walk ahead of you.......

You should be aware that there are no shops of any description or pubs or public facilities on either route until you reach the Stadium. Comments regarding these lack of facilities should be addressed to North Lanarkshire Council's planning department (external link) .......

There are maps available at this page if you don't fancy reading down this long page. For a more interactive experience, theres now a Google street map (external link) available for the long walk to Broadwood Stadium, although for some bizarre reason it doesn't show that the 'new' road links up to Smithstone Road........

....So you've made your choice & turned right at the mini-roundabout.......At the moment it is just a long winding, empty road with a large shared use pavement, surrounded by empty fields but there is a major house-building project under way. This is the route marked in Green on the home-made guide-map. Just follow the path. It will take you about 10 minutes to negotiate this part the undulating path.....

...... go straight through the first mini-roundabout .......

.....& head up-hill towards a 2nd mini-roundabout. (ignore the turn-off on the right on the way up to the mini-roundabout) I am seriously contemplating re-naming this site www.count-the-number-of-bloody-roundabouts-on-the-road-to-the-stadium.co.uk. E-mail me if you think its a catchy name please !........... This is the point were the Google map says the road doesn't exist........Just use your eyes & follow the road uphill.......

........ At this 2nd mini-roundabout take the right hand exit (heading towards the red/brown housing estate in the picture background) which takes you down-hill to a 3rd, bigger roundabout. You will have to cross over the road to the left at some stage when you are going downhill.....

........oh look there's a car work-shop & an aquatic supplies unit ......

...and there's a desolate landscape on the other side of the road. What a lovely place.

What you see is a wasteland on which broken dreams lie.

When Clyde moved to Broadwood, it was to be the centrepiece of an out of town shopping complex with cinema, restaurants & big name stores..... Hasn’t quite happened, possibly due to local government actions, but who knows what the future holds ?

Continue on the pavement & glance to your right.....

.....& you'll be rewarded with this view.

Go on. You've come this far. Walk down the hill to the stadium !

Watch out for the pot-holes and over-grown bushes and faulty street-lights on this North Lanarkshire Council, (external link) path.......

    enjoy the game :-)

... until you come to the junction to the wee cul-de-sac. Turn right, unless you have time and wish to have a few beers or a pub lunch, then take the left hand path through the underpass. This left hand path also takes you to Craiglinn Bus Interchange. ........

.... still another 10 minute walk ahead of you from this big roundabout, but at least the Stadium is in view ! This is the stage where were people get a wee bit confused about which way to go.....

... you will be going left at this roundabout. Going uphill....(clue. look for the road-sign "Stirling" & "Town Centre"). But.......

.... only one side of this up-hill road is paved so you will have to cross over this busy road from the big roundabout. Take care. Traffic is busy and fast and drivers do not care about you trying to cross the road in one piece.....

...if you are totally knackered by this point, look over to your right when you are half-way up the hill & take in the view. This view is a wee bit out of date as the open end has been filled in with a new building and tree growth. No more free views...........

... so keep walking up hill. You will shortly join up with those people who have used the short route and have been waiting for the past few minutes for the traffic to die down, trying to cross the road to get on the side you are on. 5 more minutes walk to go....

(and yes i am aware that there's no car traffic in the picture.....just got lucky on a Tuesday morning...)
